Our Services

  • A healthcare professional using an eye examination machine to perform a vision test on a patient.

    Autoimmune Disorders

We encourage all patients with auto-immune conditions to have routine eye exams. Conditions such as hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, lupus, diabetes and multiple sclerosis can all have ocular signs and symptoms to aid in diagnosis and management. Treatments for these conditions can also impact ocular and vascular health.

  • A person receiving makeup or eyelash extension application, with a close-up of the eye and technician's hand holding tools.

    Blepharoplasty Evaluation

The big word for lid lifts! When your eyelids start to block your vision due to age and genetics, a blepharoplasty will lift them back into place. We will perform pre-op testing for insurance coverage qualification.

  • A visual acuity test chart with rings of different sizes and glasses placed on top. There are two contact lens cases with blue and white lids in the center.

    Contact Lens Evaluation

There is so much misinformation surrounding contact lenses. Contacts are not one size fits all and should meet your unique needs. Contact lens selection at Tawas Bay Eye Care will address the shape of the cornea, the eye lids, affordability, the distance and near visual demands of the patient and ocular health.

  • A young woman with green eyes undergoing an eye examination using a slit lamp.

    Diabetic Eye Exams

Diabetic eye exams should be performed yearly on all diabetic and pre-diabetic patients. The biggest threat to diabetics is vascular and heart health. Thorough exams are necessary to directly evaluate your vascular health without invasive measures. We work together with primary care to develop your care plan.

  • Close-up of a woman applying eye dropper to her eye.

    Dry Eye

Symptoms of dry eye can include dryness, foreign body sensation, watery eyes, blurred vision, and redness. Digital screen time, age and auto-immune factors all play a role in dry eye. Effective management of dry eye needs to address the root cause through homeopathic and/or  prescription treatments.

    Extended Eye Exams

Extended eye exams for special needs are available upon request. If there is any reason you think you or your loved one may need a longer appointment to address all of their health and vision concerns, give us a call.

  • Close-up of a person's eye with red and irritated skin around the eyelid.

    Foreign Body/Eye Trauma

Please call immediately if you believe you have something stuck in your eye or have scratched/injured your eye. It is much easier for us to get you in the same day if you call us as soon as possible. It is usually much cheaper for you to be seen at our office than at the emergency room.

  • Close-up of a human eye showing a gray contact lens, brown iris, and surrounding skin with eyelashes.

    Glaucoma

Glaucoma is painless, progressive optic nerve atrophy, often undetectable by the patient until end stages causing permanent vision loss. Using Ocular Coherence Tomography we can track early nerve changes and start treatment before visual field defects are present. Glaucoma is managed with eye drops, laser treatment and surgery depending on the patient.

    Neurological/Binocular vision exams

If you are having new double vision, difference in pupil size, difficulty reading, headaches or missing vision please call our office or go to the emergency room immediately as these symptoms can have life threatening causes. Our goal is to determine if symptoms are muscular, neurological or pharmaceutically induced and then to alleviate symptoms.

  • Close-up of an elderly person's face focusing on the eye and surrounding wrinkles.

    Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration causes painless, progressive, and permanent central vision loss. Early intervention is key. We use Ocular Coherence Tomography to track changes that could not be appreciated on observation alone. We manage Dry AMD at our office and work closely with an Ophthalmologist to manage Wet AMD.

  • A woman is assisting a young boy at an optometry shop, showing him a pair of glasses. A boy with glasses is looking into a mirror on the counter, while another boy with glasses is sitting across from them. Several pairs of glasses are on the counter.

    Pediatric Care

We see patients starting at the age of 6 months. Infant exams evaluate for risk factors of amblyopia, cancer, and other developmental delays. Amblyopia is caused when the brain does not develop clear vision due to a physical obstruction to light entering the eyes, high prescriptions, or an eye turn. Infant and pediatric exams are geared towards getting as much information about your child development while building trust with them.

  • Close-up of a human eye with a blue iris and slightly red eyelids.

    Red Eye/Pink Eye

Red eye or pink eye are symptoms that can have many different root causes. Optometrists have equipment that primary care does not to better determine if your symptoms are bacterial, viral, toxic, allergic or inflammatory.

  • A woman undergoes an eye exam with a phoropter, an instrument used by optometrists to measure refractive error and determine eyeglass prescriptions.

    Routine Exams

Exams for the purpose of obtaining a glasses prescription include an eye health screening, and dilation can be billed to your vision insurance. If the health findings require monitoring, education or treatment, they must be billed to your medical insurance.

  • An optometrist is examining a patient's eyes using a slit lamp microscope in an eye clinic.

    Same Day Emergency Openings

If you believe you are having an eye emergency please call us as soon as possible. If you are not sure, call us and we can help you decide. Painful eyes, flashing lights in your vision, double vision, injury, or sudden vision loss can all be symptoms of an emergency.
